In bridal gown shops you're more than likely to see more traditional than unusual, as shops cannot take too many risks by stocking dresses which will only be desired by a minority - and when you do find more unusal dresses in high street wedding shops, they're likely to come with an unusual price tag to match!
So, expand your search to general womens clothing shops, look for idea's in catalogues, search the internet for idea's, start to get an idea for what it is you're actually looking for - the better an idea of what kind of a dress you're looking for, the easier it is going to be to find it.
The fact that you're looking for something unusual, means of course it will not be easy to find - if it were available hanging up in all good wedding shops, then it wouldn't be unusual. So expect a bit of a challenge, but be confident that you will find what you want in the end.
Remember, as you're visiting clothing shops & surfing the web, initially you're not really looking for the dress - you're looking for idea's, to enable you to get a better idea of what it is you're searching for. You never know, you may just stumble upon the dress which is just perfect, exactly what you wanted - and for far less than you expected to pay, fingers crossed, these kinds of things DO happen. Or, you may just end up going to a more traditional wedding dress supplier, or bespoke designer - but with a much better idea of what it is you want.
Visit wedding events at local wedding venues, pick up wedding magazines, and keep your eyes open for idea's.
Try doing a google images search for unusual wedding dress, unique wedding gown, alternative wedding dress, and so on, and whatever other creative ways you can think of to search google for images of wedding dresses, which may well come up with results which give you some great ideas.
